We had a good attendance and lots of delicious refreshments and coffee for the meeting. Several things were discussed, one of the most important being: when to have the events? It was unanimously decided that Sunday afternoon was not the most convienient time. What with church, family get-togethers etc, it just wasn't the best time and was keeping some members from participating. It was decided that the second Saturday of each month would be the most convienient time. So, unless some special event comes up, that will be when we will hold each month's event. I hope that will make it easier for all of you to participate this year. So come on out and join the fun, we have some great events planned!

We are also planning some special events such as knot tying classes, rope splicing and boat orientation. (the last is a class that both new and old sailboaters will get something out of. It will consist of taking the class completely thru the boat (in this case the Terra Nova, a 36' Catalina) and explaining the use and function of all the items on board. This will include both above and below deck. Above deck will start at the stern and go forward covering all the names of the items, their use and function. It will show how to properly secure a line to a cleat, the names of each line and where they run to and what they do. The use of a whisker pole will be explained and shown as will anchor gear. The Terra Nova has had all the running rigging re-rigged to lead aft to the cockpit so that a short handed crew can sail her without having to leave the cockpit. This is a great advantage in safety and ease for short-handed sailing. Lazy-Jacks will be shown and explained as will Boom Vangs and Flag Halyards, and more.

Below decks will again start at the rear and go forward explaining each item from Galley stove to head and all in between. A brief description of the preperation of the engine for leaving the dock will also be explained. All in all we think this will be a very helpful class of instruction, especially for those relatively new to sailing who have had some lessons but were afraid to ask all of the questions they wanted for fear of seeming unknowledgeable. There are no foolish questions here, only good straightforward answers. Be sure and join us for this fun event!

Memberships are up for renewal! As you all know, the club year runs from June to June of the following year. At the "Planning Meeting" we voted to keep the membership fee at $99.00 a year for both the Charter Memberships and the Regular Memberships. The dues are due by June 1, 2009. Anyone who has not renewed their membership within 30 days of that date will be contacted and asked if they wish to remain a member and, if not, will be dropped from the membership. Please note: at this time there is only one Charter Membership left. Any Charter member who does not renew their membership opens that slot up to be filled by a a new member. After all 25 Charter memberships are filled all other memberships will be Regular Memberships. Both of these memberships are considered Active Memberships and only active memberships are elligible to win the awards at each event. Inactive members and guests can still participate in all events but are not elligibe to win the awards.

We are taking orders for Jacket patches, Club Burgees (flags) and hats and t-shirts with the Club patch on them. They are available in red, white or blue.
